What is EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE?
Equine Sports Massage Therapy is the therapeutic application of hands-on Deep and Soft Tissue Mobilization Techniques to the voluntary muscle system - for the purpose of increasing circulation, reducing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, promoting healing and increasing range of motion.
Deep Tissue Mobilization involves the application of manual techniques such as pressure, compression, bending, longitudinal gliding, cross fibre work, kneading, stretching and rolling the tissues - the purpose of which is to stretch and release the soft tissue of the body.
The Soft Tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and fascia (connective tissue). Working the soft tissue releases structural (bone/joint) changes in the physical body that may be the result of injury, pain and/or muscle imbalance.
What are the Benefits?
restore range of motion to stiff joints
relieve muscular tightness, spasms or restrictions improve muscle tone and balance
reduce the physical stress placed on bones and joints
IMPROVES CIRCULATION AND AS A RESULT, PROMOTES MORE RAPID HEALING OF INJURIES.
ENHANCES MUSCLE TONE AND INCREASES RANGE OF MOTION.
EASES MUSCLE SPASMS.
REDUCES INFLAMMATION AND SWELLING IN THE JOINTS SO THAT PAIN IS RELIEVED.
RELIEVES TENSION AND STIMULATES CIRCULATION IN THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM AND HASTENS THE ELIMINATION OF WASTE PRODUCTS AND OTHER TOXINS.
reduce muscle fatigue and soreness by promoting rapid removal of toxins and waste products from the tissues
increase flexibility in the muscles
bring more oxygen and nutrients into the muscle by increasing blood circulation\

Massage can be used:
In training, pre and post competition and is a work out for the muscles. Stiff, tight muscles will tear much easier than soft ones and having regular massages can help your horse (like any elite athlete) work to the best of his ability willingly. Whatever you dream to do with your equine partner, these benefits will make their life as easy and enjoyable as possible and is a wonderful addition to that tool box for your horses well-being.
